Do people use the word brunet which refers to a male with brown hair?

I've never heard or read the word Brunet before. Ladies don't you use it when you talk about men as men talk about brunettes? Apparently "Brunette" is supposed to be feminine and "Brunet" is supposed to be masculine but Brunette is common and brunet - nobody uses

  1. I use it, but not that often. In both cases (with men and women) I am more likely to say "s/he has brown hair."
  2. I've never heard of a man being referred to as a brunette. Huh, that's a little strange.
  3. I've never heard it or seen it in print.
  4. That is really interesting. You dont hear men referred to as a brunette. You would say he has brown hair. Also you dont hear men referred to as a blonde. You would say he has blonde hair. And even a redhead, you would say he has red hair. How funny...I wonder why we do that?
  5. I've never heard or used it either. But actually, I've never used brunette in relation to women either, I'll just say that she has dark hair or I like dark haired women.
  6. I've never heard of people using it, I had no idea there was such a word.
  7. OH MY Fuck!ng god it's just hair! Brunette is a hair colour not a whole lets stand up for the plight of our gender because someone made a funny! Now I've been at this all night, with the girls who are "better" than men and the men who are "better" than women. Now I find out hair colour is a gender matter too! Well why not turn me over I'm roasted! People are idiots, any new word can come and go, as can the fashion! It's all to separate us from who we are! A hair colour isn't us, a dress or jeans isn't us! PEOPLE, we are humans who need to come together and fight the ultimate power. THE GOVERNMENT! They are the ones making the bogus rules and laws, us against them. NOT US AGAINST US!
  8. I read it once in a book, but I've never heard it used in everyday conversation. In that same vein, my mom once told me that the word for a black-haired person is "chautain." (I don't know what the proper spelling is, but the pronounciation is "show-TAN.") Anyone ever heard that?
  9. Another term I've heard used for those with naturally brown hair that isn't a really dark color is "brownette". That's because brunette implies someone with either dark brown or black hair. There are a lot of people who have brown hair but it isn't all that dark.
  10. It's also funny to notice there is no such denominator for people with black hair, not for women or men. So as a classifying system it is quite faulty.
  11. The terms brunette and blonde come to us from the French. French has masculine and feminine noun forms for nearly everything. Adjectives match the noun they modify. This is not a male/female issue; it is an English/French language inheritance issue. The solution so simple: People of GWS, we should all switch to German.
